The story of The Teahouse began around 1904 when QLD Rail built a permanent station in the township of Marian. The station featured prominently in the lives of many Pioneer Valley residents as the rail network was often the only means of transport to and from Mackay. For nearly 90 years The Station served its community well until modern vehicles made the use of rail transport in these areas obsolete.
One Saturday morning in the middle of 1994 we were reading the local paper when we spotted the tender notice for the building. Out of curiosity, we decided to go and have a look and on the spot, we fell in love with the old girl. We had to have her, luckily for us, our tender was accepted and with four weeks to find a removalist and clear the site, we had the biggest project we had ever undertaken on our hands.
Many years on and The Old Station Teahouse has grown into something that is bigger than we ever envisaged and it has become a favourite stop for visitors from all over. We have always maintained our pride in presenting simple food that is homemade and delicious.
Our love for this beautiful old building is as strong today as it was when we first laid eyes on her. Please take your time to relax, enjoy a stroll around the garden and soak up a piece of local history.
“Perfect Place to Relax.”
One of my favourite places in our beautiful region - always relaxing in tranquil garden settings with fabulous friendly service and amazing scones ! The wood fired pizzas on Friday and Saturday are exceptional the ambience is spot on its pet friendly and the resident cat and super friendly puppy are always happy to play ..
“Hoot of a Time.”
Stopped to have breakfast with Dwayne and Michelle. Ideally set into the rainforest. Enjoy time on the large deck and savour the delicious breakfast and very good coffee.
It's an awesome spot for a small function or wedding. They have plans to expand. Worth the stop to hear about the relocation of the old railway station and take a look around.

There are two reasons I visit the Mackay area - to see my daughter and the caramel pecan brownies from The Old Station Tea House!!!

Such a lovely way to spend some hours! Great coffee, great service and the most amazing scones! All set amongst a stunning garden setting on the edge of the forest. I was lucky enough to be there for a change of season which sees the whole place come alive with butterflies!
